Roy Keane gave a typical reaction when finding out how much he’d possibly be worth in the current transfer market.
Keane was part of ITV Sport’s broadcast team for England’s World Cup qualifier against Andorra at Villa Park on Saturday, alongside Ian Wright and Mark Pougatch.
And the Three Lions’ clash was the first competitive fixture for the squad since the conclusion of the summer transfer window.
It’s fair to say it was generally a busy summer for Premier League clubs.

Liverpool topped the spending charts with an overall spend of £446m as Arne Slot welcomed ten players, including Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak at a British record price of £125m.
Overall, Premier League sides spent £3.19bn on signings in the summer window, setting a record and dwarfing last summer’s combined spend of £1.96bn.
And there’s no doubt that fees are inflated due to various factors, including both national and global economies, meaning that, for example, £50m in 2015 is not worth the same as £50m in 2025.

Valuball created a system to put current and past fees into perspective and found that Wayne Rooney’s £25m switch from Everton to Manchester United would be worth £141m in today’s market.
But how much would Roy Keane be worth?
Well, Keane’s biggest move came in the summer of 1993 when he joined United from Nottingham Forest for a then-British record of £3.75m.
And it’s fair to say United’s investment was well worth it as the Irishman won 17 trophies in 12 seasons at the club, including seven Premier League titles and one UEFA Champions League, before leaving for Celtic in 2005.

These days, Keane is regularly part of both Sky Sports’ and ITV Sport’s live football coverage, and he was in place alongside Wright on Saturday evening.
While Isak’s big money move to Liverpool was being discussed, presenter Pougatch revealed how he asked ChatGPT, “What is the equivalent today?” to which the program responded: “If you are trying to make a comparison with Roy Keane, it’s about £70m”.
But Keane was quick to react to a photograph of him from 1993 rather than the fee.

“I haven’t changed much, have I?” Keane quipped.
“No, you have changed, though, look how round your face was there,” Wright added.

Fans on social media also weighed in with their thoughts and discussed how much Keane would be worth if he were playing at his peak in 2025.
One fan said: “Given Rice cost £100 mil, you can double that figure.”
Another added: “At least as much as Caicedo.”
A third claimed: “£180 million.”
