One lucky punter may have already staked their claim for the bet of the season just days before the Premier League opener.
With the EFL – League Two, League One and the Championship – already underway, attention now switches to the crown jewel of English football, the Premier League.
On Friday evening, over 50,000 supporters will make their way to Anfield for Liverpool’s clash against Bournemouth.
Of course, going to the match, for many, comes with a routine.

Whether you get to the ground early, just before kick-off or slightly late due to having one too many in the pub, everyone spends the build-up to match days in their own way, with some choosing to bet on the action.
Throughout the 2025/26 campaign, you will, undoubtedly, see several improbable bets come in and be dubbed ‘bet of the season’.

However, one lucky punter may have already claimed this before the Premier League has even got underway.

On Wednesday (August 13), bookmakers Paddy Power posted one fan’s wild bet to their X account.
Paddy Power wrote: “Bet of the season landed already. Over 9.5 corners in 18 matches. £10 stake returning £197,945.98. Decent Tuesday evening's work for one punter in Essex!”
The punter bet on the Carabao Cup first round games with Accrington v Peterborough, Blackpool v Port Vale, Bristol Rovers v Cambridge Utd, Cardiff vs Swindon, Chesterfield v Mansfield, Coventry v Luton, Grimsby v Shrewsbury, Harrogate v Lincoln, Oxford United v Colchester, Plymouth v QPR, Portsmouth v Reading, Salford City v Rotherham, Stoke v Walsall, Watford v Norwich, West Brom v Derby, Wigan v Notts County, Wrexham v Hull and Bromley v Ipswich, returning a fortune.
A spokesperson from Paddy Power said: “The first round of the Carabao Cup rarely produces the stuff of dreams - except for this plucky punter, who’s gone from flags to riches with an unbelievable 18-leg corner acca.

"Fair play!”
