Peter Crouch names the one player he was scared of who would 'threaten to break your legs and mean it'

Ex-Liverpool and England star Peter Crouch has named the player that scared him during his career.

Former Liverpool and England striker Peter Crouch has named the player who scared him the most.

Throughout a fine career in English football, Crouch played for the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Portsmouth, Southampton, Liverpool and Stoke City before ending his playing time with Burnley in 2019.

In total, Crouch managed 205 goals in 735 appearances across all competitions.

On the international stage, the 43-year-old was capped 42 times by England, netting on 22 occasions.

Since retiring, Crouch has often worked on TV as a pundit for the likes of TNT Sports and Amazon Prime.

When previously speaking on his own ‘The Peter Crouch Podcast’, Crouch revealed that the only player to ever scare him was former Rangers, Wolves and Millwall defender Kevin Muscat.

He said: “Kevin Muscat scared me. You know people would say ‘I’m going to break your legs’ - when he would say it, you genuinely believed him.”

Whilst Crouch’s co-host added: “My seven-year-old asked me who is the dirtiest player of all time. I’ve gone straight to YouTube and typed Kevin Muscat in and let him see the horrors. He understood.

“You can get one-off Kevin Muscat horrors. You can get the best of Kevin Muscat, which is the worst of Kevin Muscat. It’s terrifying.”

Everton veteran Ashley Young once claimed he told him he would 'break his legs' during his early days at Watford, while Muscat was also labelled a 'low life' by Arsenal hero Ian Wright.

Despite his aggressive approach in his playing days, Muscat has since ventured into the managerial world and is eager to adapt a more relaxed approach in his post-playing days.

"I want to be involved in teams that play a certain brand of football and that maybe contradicts what most people perceive to my playing days," he told AFP.

"I'm trying to forge my own way in terms of the way I coach, the way I manage and the way my teams play. That's really all I can do."

Muscat is currently the manager of Chinese Super League side Shanghai Port.
