Roy Keane and Micah Richards became embroiled in a heated debate following Arsenal’s 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Riccardo Calafiori’s first-half header was enough to secure all three points for Arsenal as they got their 2025/26 Premier League campaign off to a winning start.
And despite a spirited showing, Ruben Amorim and his Man United side will go back to the drawing board ahead of their trip to Fulham next Sunday.
During the clash at Old Trafford, Arsenal summer signings Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi, and Noni Madueke made their competitive debuts, while United’s recruits Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko featured for the first time.

There were also some notable omissions from the Red Devils’ match-day squad, as forward Rasmus Hojlund and goalkeeper Andre Onana were dropped by Amorim.
Mason Mount took up Hojlund’s usual forward position while Altay Bayindir started in place of Onana.

However, Bayindir made a huge error in the lead-up to Arsenal’s goal.

13 minutes in, Declan Rice took an in-swinging corner which a flapping Bayindir failed to deal with despite getting a glove to the ball, before Calafiori nodded home at the back post.
After the match, Keane and Richards discussed the incident and seemingly disagreed with each other’s take live on Sky Sports.
Richards explained how he felt the goalkeeper needed more protection from his teammates before Keane replied: "Micah, this is big boy stuff."
The former United skipper added: "There's going to be mismatches. If they've got a lot more players bigger than you're lads, then you're going to be outmatched somewhere."

The former City right-back then continued to defend Bayindir before Keane claimed: "That's the goalkeeper, you can't babysit a goalkeeper.”
Richards replied: "I agree with you that the goalkeeper should definitely do better.

"But I also believe he should be protected a lot more."
Ruben Amorim on Andre Onana omission
After his side's defeat, Amorim was pressed on why Onana was left out, to which he replied: “No, I didn’t drop Onana from the squad. I didn’t drop one of the other two from the squad [Bayindir, Heaton]. So it’s not the case of dropping Onana. It’s not putting André Onana in just one week without seeing the game, without time, with training.”
When questioned on if he's happy with his three goalkeepers he added: "We proved today that we can win any game in the Premier League, especially against a great team like Arsenal, and we were the better team. I’m happy with the three goalkeepers.”
