Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand dropped a huge bombshell about what people inside the club thought about Amad Diallo before the winger netted the winner against Manchester City.

On Sunday afternoon, it looked like United were going to come away from the Etihad Stadium disappointed as City remained 1-0 ahead in the last few minutes of the match.

Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol had headed City into a 1-0 lead in the first half but a dramatic finish meant United came away 2-1 winners thanks to Bruno Fernandes and Diallo's goals in the 88th and 90th minute.

Diallo was the star of the late United show as he won the penalty before netting the winner.

Taking to social media, ex-United and England centre-back Ferdinand revealed what many people inside the Old Trafford club thought about Diallo.

He wrote: "Written off by many inside and out the club. Too lightweight. No power. Can’t run. Too young. Big price. And more.

"But @Amaddiallo_19 is delivering, the desire plus quality is thriving."

The Ivorian was also named as the Player of the Match due to his impact in the closing stages.

Speaking after the match, United captain Fernandes praised Diallo, he said: "He has been doing well, he has been doing great things and there is a still a lot to come from him.

"He showed again today he is always alive. That is why he gets the penalty, why he gets the goal. He has been brilliant. When he is like this, he is unstoppable."

The Portuguese added: "I just want him to keep working, that is what he has been doing. It is great what he did today, but I am sure he can do this every week. We want this week in, week out. He is now getting his chances, deservedly."

Diallo himself said: "I am following the manager’s system. He’s demanding a lot of pressing and when I have to press, I go 100 per cent and I don’t care who is there, who is not there.

"I was so happy to score against City and so happy to win this game. I want to enjoy this moment today and then let’s focus for the next game."
