A former Premier League player previously claimed that Paul Scholes was overrated and the notion that he ran games is a “footballing myth” which has only grown since the Manchester United icon retired.
Scholes, 50, is widely regarded as one of the most gifted Premier League and England midfielders of all time.
The ex-Man Utd star is often put alongside Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard as ‘the best’ England midfielders of the last 30 years or so.
The 50-year-old retired from playing in 2013, having won 25 trophies - 11 Premier League titles, two League Cups, four FA Cups, five Charity Shields, two UEFA Champions League titles, 1 Intercontinental Cup and 1 Club World Cup - during his time at United.

But his list of achievements is seemingly not enough for one former Premier League player.

Back in 2020, former midfielder Curtis Woodhouse, who represented clubs such as Birmingham City, Sheffield United and Hull City, among others, pinpointed the fact that Scholes was never voted into the PFA Team of the Year while Gerrard made the cut on eight occasions.
Woodhouse wrote on X: "Scholes ran that many games for Manchester United, he was never ever ever ever voted into the PFA team of the year by the players he was running games against. Just let that sink in.

"Scholes was never ever voted into the PFA team of the year. It’s voted for by the players of every team competing in the league that year. To be respected by your fellow professionals as the best is the highest accolade.”
He added: “He had [Roy] Keane next to him, [Ryan] Giggs and [David] Beckham either side and [Dwight] Yorke and [Andy] Cole up top! Oh, and Rio [Ferdinand] and [Nemanja] Vidic behind him! Paul Scholes running games is a footballing myth that’s grown and grown since he retired."
But that was not all. Woodhouse’s rant did not stop there as he then focused on the fact that Scholes failed to win a single Ballon d’Or vote during his illustrious career.
"Paul Scholes didn’t receive a single vote for the Ballon d'Or in his entire career," Woodhouse tweeted. "Not one person EVER voted for him. The most overrated English footballer of all time. Please end this debate."

Gerrard received 220 votes throughout his career while Lampard recorded 169.
Woodhouse also previously claimed that Scholes’ fellow Man United legend Giggs was "unbelievably overrated".
"Ryan Giggs, another unbelievably overrated Manchester United player," he wrote on social media.

"Outstanding longevity, but in a team that dominated for years and were a free-scoring machine, his statistics for goals and assists is awful.
"Another Manchester United myth, good player, never anything more."
