Dana White contradicts Eddie Hearn with major Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury update as 'really weak' claim made

UFC president and Zuffa Boxing co-founder Dana White has claimed he knows where Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury will take place after Matchroom Boxing chief Eddie Hearn insisted the fight should be in the UK.

On Thursday (August 6), Hearn, who promotes Joshua, explained how he believes the all-British showdown with Fury will be officially announced later this month.

The promoter insisted that he and Joshua want the fight to happen in the UK and have not agreed for it to take place elsewhere, despite suggestions that New York’s Madison Square Garden was the likely venue.

"I'm not going to sit here and tell you there's no way the fight's happening in America because things can change,” Hearn told Sky Sports.

“But I really feel strongly that this is something that should happen in the UK and we'll do all we can.

"We're up against it - it seems like everybody else has agreed but Anthony Joshua. He feels a little bit of responsibility to UK fight fans as well, and he's doing everything he can to give them what they want."

Meanwhile, the consensus among the boxing community is that the fight should take place in the UK, given both fighters are from the nation and the bout would likely sell out Wembley Stadium.

This view was directly conveyed to Hearn by former WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew in late July, with the Liverpudlian claiming “American boxing’s dead” and that “no-one cares” about Joshua and Fury outside of the UK.

"I'm just sick of it," Bellew added. "We're appealing to America. Why? America don't care about us. When have America cared about boxing?

"They want what we've got. We've got the best crowds in the world. We've got the most passionate fans in the world. And that's why it should be with us."

And despite the former world champion's best wishes, White has since made clear that the fight will take place “where the money is”.

"We're the ones that have done all the deals for this fight. I did the deal for the venue, that's why I know where the venue is. I did the deal. We at TKO [the company which owns UFC, WWE and Zuffa Boxing] did the deal for television and we did everything," White told Sky Sports on August 7.

He added: “At the end of the day, here's the truth, you're going to go where the money is."

The American then described boxing as a “mess” before revealing that the “Saudis are paying for the fight”, then seemingly aiming a dig at Hearn by saying other promoters are “some of the weakest people” he’s ever come across.

“And what I've noticed is in the boxing business since I've been in it for a very short period of time, six months, the promoters' egos are actually more important than the fights themselves and giving the fight fans the fights they want to see,” he added.

"It's all about ego with the promoters. It's fascinating. These guys are all really weak.”

Joshua vs Fury will likely take place in November, although an official date has yet to be confirmed.
