Manchester United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been tipped to make a surprise return to management amid links with a huge club.

It's now been nearly four years since United confirmed that they had sacked former manager Solskjaer following a 4–1 to Watford at Vicarage Road.

Solskjaer scored 126 goals in 11 seasons from 1996-2007 as a player for United before joining as manager in December 2018.

Since his dismissal from the role at United, Solskjaer decided to take some time away from the dugout before returning to manage Turkish giants Besiktas in January.

But, after just seven months in charge, the Norwegian was sacked in August, and it appears that this time he isn't going to take so long to return to management.

After enjoying a positive start to life at Besiktas, picking up eight wins and one draw in his first 12 games, Solskjaer's return to management looked promising.

However, after being knocked out of European football with a defeat at home to Swiss side Lausanne-Sport in the Conference League play-off round, the Besiktas board decided they'd had enough.

Since then, Solskjaer has been linked with several jobs across football, but it now appears that a surprising move to Scottish giants Rangers.

After parting ways with Russell Martin, Rangers had been strongly linked with former manager Steven Gerrard, but reports have now suggested that the Liverpool legend has turned down the chance to return to the Ibrox Stadium.

And now, Solskjaer has emerged as one of the favourites to take the massive job, with Oddschecker revealing that they had slashed the odds on him becoming Rangers manager from 33/1 to 7/2.

The sudden change in odds comes after Solskjaer's former United teammate Paul Scholes heavily teased that the Norwegian was set to have a meeting with Rangers about the job.

Speaking on an episode of his The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, he said: "I was actually with a lad the other night who told me he was actually going to meet Rangers.

"I'm not sure if he did but his name's not been mentioned. I don't think he was going for it. They contacted him and he was going to meet them in London the day after."

Former teammate and podcast co-host Nicky Butt' then added: "Oh, I know who you mean."

However, Scholes refused attempts from comedian Paddy McGuinness to confirm it was Solskjaer that he was talking about, smirking while replying: "No. No comment."
