Bruno Fernandes' FPL haul vs Ipswich looks incredible until you see the all-time record holder for a single gameweek

Bruno Fernandes recorded the best Fantasy Premier League (FPL) return of his career on Sunday but he remains some way short of Mohamed Salah's record for the most points in a single Gameweek.

It was an afternoon to remember for Fernandes, who scored 23 points in GW2 after bagging three goals and an assist in Manchester United's 5-2 win over newly-promoted Ipswich Town.

Last season, no player managed more double-digit Gameweeks than Fernandes. In fact, he averaged 7.6 points per match under Michael Carrick and ended up being the top-scoring midfielder across the 2025-26 campaign.

So it was no surprise to see the 31-year-old record another massive haul, with three additional bonus points meaning he scored his best-ever FPL return in a single match.

Ahead of United's opening game of the season, Fernandes was asked why people should pick him in their FPL squad this season. “They shouldn’t," he smiled. "I’m too expensive.”

Let's hope they went against his advice.

How does Bruno Fernandes' latest FPL week compare to previous big hauls?

Fernandes' 23-point haul in a single Gameweek is certainly an impressive feat, but it still falls six points short of Mohamed Salah's record-breaking return against Watford during the 2017-18 campaign.

Salah, who is one of the highest scorers in Fantasy history, managed a career-high 29-point score after bagging four goals and an assist in the 5-0 win at Anfield. Will it ever be beaten? We're not sure.

Following close behind Salah is another FPL legend. Frank Lampard scored 28 points on two separate occasions, with the first being in 2007-08, when he recorded four goals and an assist in Chelsea's 6-1 win over Derby.

He also notched four goals and an assist during the 2009-10 season, when he ran riot against Aston Villa.

Former Liverpool defender John Arne Riise is next on the list with his 27-point haul against West Brom on Boxing Day in 2004. The full-back bagged two goals, two assists and a clean sheet that day.

Steve Watson, meanwhile, surprised everyone when he earned 27 points during Everton's 4-0 win over Leeds during the 2003-04 campaign.

Watson, who naturally played as a defender but was moved into midfield for the game at Goodison Park, scored 18 points for a hat-trick and a clean sheet, as well as three bonus points and two appearance points.

Other high scorers include Theo Walcott, who notched a hat-trick and two assists (26 points) for Arsenal in a 7-3 win over Newcastle in December 2012.

Michail Antonio also scored 26 points when he scored all four goals for West Ham in a 4-0 win over Norwich City in July 2020. He also collected maximum bonus points for his performance.

And more recently, Chelsea's Cole Palmer was the last person to bag 26 points after scoring four goals against Everton in April 2024.
