Fabrizio Romano drops Arsenal transfer bombshell and it could impact Man Utd's transfer plans as fans make same point

Fabrizio Romano has dropped a huge update on Arsenal's growing interest in RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko – and it could impact Manchester United and their transfer plans.

Arsenal and United are both in the market for a striker this summer, but there is a shortage of available, top quality centre forwards ahead of the new campaign.

Chelsea have seemingly won the race to sign Liam Delap and are currently in the final stages of negotiations with the 22-year-old, who is available for £30 million due to a clause in his contract at Ipswich.

Delap was being chased by the out of sorts Manchester United, who will need to look elsewhere as they prioritise the signing of a new out-and-out centre-forward following a disastrous campaign in front of goal.

Away from Delap and the Reds maintain a long-standing interest in Benjamin Sesko; a player who is also being tracked by some of Europe's top clubs.

In fact, it looks like Arsenal are in the driving seat to sign one of world football's most in-demand strikers.

On Thursday night, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano suggested the Gunners have "started initial concrete talks for Sesko" – a player who has "always been high" on their list of targets.

Romano goes on to claim that attempts to get deal the done in May 2024 and January were rejected by RB Leipzig, but the highly-rated Slovenian forward will leave this summer, with Mikel Arteta's side very much interested in his services.

So, what does that mean for United? It looks like two of their initial targets could be on the move, but Viktor Gyokeres – a player that worked under Ruben Amorim at Sporting – is still available after another superb campaign.

The 26-year-old, who scored 48 goals in all competitions during the 2024/25 season, has attracted interest from United and Arsenal, but if the latter are pursuing Sesko, then it could pave the way for Amorim's side to secure a deal.

Here's how fans on social media reacted to the Sesko news.

One said: "What about Gyokeres to United... will it happen if Sesko goes to Arsenal?" and another commented: "I just know United are gonna be the ones to take the Gyokeres bait."

A third wrote: "Chelsea - Delap. Arsenal - Sesko. Liverpool - Ekitike. United - Gyokeres."

A fourth said: "If what they're saying is true... then that opens up an opportunity for United to look at Gyokeres," and a fifth added: "And now everyone is talking about Gyokeres to United."

Asked about his future in January, Gyokeres refused to rule out a move.

"We will see," he told Spanish outlet Marca. "There are many rumours circulating, but we are in the middle of the season and there are still many months left. We will see when the time comes what will happen."

The Swede was also asked where he sees himself playing in four years time. He replied: "Playing for one of the best teams in Europe. That is the objective."
