Manchester United will save a significant amount on their wage bill this season after Barcelona agreed to pay all of Marcus Rashford's salary as part of his proposed transfer.

Rashford, who has three years remaining on his £300,000-a-week contract at United, is on the verge of completing a dream move to Barca after an agreement in principle was reached between the two clubs on Saturday.

The 27-year-old forward will join the La Liga champions on a season-long loan, but Barcelona will have the option to buy Rashford for an undisclosed fee at the end of the 2025/26 campaign, according to The Times.

It has also emerged that the Catalan giants will pay all of Rashford’s wages during the loan – a move that will be welcomed by co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

In fact, as the Premier League club continue to try and save some much-needed pennies, Rashford's departure is expected to shave around £17 million off United’s wage bill as Ruben Amorim continues to rebuild.

Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, but the club decided against triggering a £40 million option-to-buy clause. The forward was also not keen as he wanted Champions League football.

Barca boss Hansi Flick, meanwhile, is said to have already personally spoken to Rashford about a move.

Reports in Spain claimed that the Spanish club preferred to sign Liverpool winger Luis Diaz, though the Reds' recent rejection of a £58 million bid from Bayern Munich may have forced their hand.

Manchester United wage bill figures emerge

The following wage figures have been published by Capology and are only estimated figures.

In total, United's weekly payroll stands at £3,296,500 and the total annual payroll is £171,418,000. The club also have an average weekly salary of £113,672 and an average annual salary of £5,910,966.

It is claimed that Brazilian midfielder Casemiro is the highest-paid player at the club, taking home a reported weekly wage of £350,000, while captain Bruno Fernandes is next in line with a wage of £300,000.

Here are the top 10 highest-paid players at United:
