European club 'ready to break the bank' for Marcus Rashford as contact made

Marcus Rashford's representatives have been approached by a club that is prepared to 'break the bank' in an attempt to sign him from Manchester United this summer, according to a new report.

As things stand, Rashford will return to Carrington this month as United prepare for the new Premier League campaign, which will see them face newly-promoted Hull City on August 22.

It has been an uncertain period for the 28-year-old, who joined Barcelona last summer on a season-long loan. He featured regularly for the La Liga winners, notching 14 goals and 14 assists in all competitions.

But despite his form, the Catalan giants decided against activating the €30 million (£25.9m) buy option in his season-long loan.

A few days ago, Rashford penned a goodbye message to Barca, saying: "I'm very grateful to everyone at the club for making my time here such a positive and memorable experience. I have enjoyed every moment and I will take many special memories with me."

He added: "I wish the club and all of its supporters the very best of luck and every success in the season ahead. Visca el Barca."

So, what next for the England international? Rashford had an exit clause in his contract that allowed him to leave Old Trafford for £40 million this summer, but it expired on July 15, meaning any interested party will now have to negotiate with his parent club.

United, meanwhile, would prefer not to let him join a rival in England, according to ESPN.

With that in mind, Turkish outfit Fenerbahce are ready to 'break the bank' to bring Rashford to Istanbul in a move that would undoubtedly be one of the biggest of the summer.

In fact, the forward's representatives have already been contacted by Fenerbahce over a possible move, according to a report from The Sun, which claims new manager Ismail Kartal will be backed in the transfer window as they look to challenge Galatasaray.

Rashford, meanwhile, is said to be on a three-man shortlist that includes Ismaila Sarr and Rafael Leao, who has reportedly held talks with the Turkish giants.

Speaking in the aftermath of Barcelona's victory over Birmingham at the weekend, Flick admitted he will "miss" Rashford.

"You don't know what happens with players who are on loan - our situation is not easy for that," the German said. "But I appreciate working with him [Rashford]. He is a fantastic player and a fantastic person. The team miss him, I will miss him, but it is life.

"This is what we have to accept. And in the end, Anthony Gordon comes and from the first call with him when I spoke with him, he is on fire with Barça and I'm really happy that he's on our team."
