Man Utd player who made Premier League debut with Marcus Rashford has made his first million in new business
A former Manchester United midfielder who made his Premier League debut alongside Marcus Rashford says he is "incredibly proud" to surpass £1 million in sales after retiring from football.
James Weir, who came on in the final stages of United’s 3-2 win over Arsenal in 2016, spent eight years at Old Trafford after progressing through their academy ranks.
His outing against Arsenal happened to be his only senior appearance for the club. He signed a three-year deal with Hull City in the summer of 2016 but injuries meant he was limited to just seven appearances.
The midfielder went on to play for Wigan Athletic (loan) and Bolton Wanderers before upping sticks to Slovenia, where he played for FK Pohronie.

Weir, who played alongside Rashford and Ravel Morrison at youth level, also spent time in Hungary with Budapest-based side MTK Budapest before ending his career in Slovakia with top-tier side FC ViOn Zlate Moravce.
Announcing his retirement in 2024 at the age of 28, he said: "Life update. After a lot of thought and consideration, I’ve decided to hang up my boots professionally.
"A bittersweet moment, but I can look back on my career with happy memories. Despite my injuries, I’ve met some incredible people, forged life-long relationships and travelled the world doing what I love."

On the subject of travelling the world, Weir decided to become an independent travel agent after hanging up his boots, a job that requires plenty of air miles.

On Instagram, the Association of Former Manchester United Players, who are the official charity for former Manchester United players, describe Weir's journey as a testament to hard work, belief and the drive to succeed after football.
Weir is quoted as saying: "I started my own travel business. I now help former teammates, families, and other travellers enjoy seamless, stress-free trips and encourage people to travel more often. I'm incredibly proud to say I've just surpassed £1 million in sales."
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News in 2025, Weir spoke about his journey to becoming a travel agent.
"It was around the time I had just come back from Slovakia, it was New Year's Eve, and I was speaking to one of my sister's friends who worked for this company in the head office," he began.
"She was telling me about it, explaining that I could run my own business and that it was essentially a franchise, but you work as much as you want. I have always really liked travelling and I have been lucky enough to go to places in Europe and all around the world when I was younger with Man United
"In football, you are constantly told what to do, when to do it, which is part of the game, but I like the idea of being a bit more flexible. I am really enjoying it. It is hard and it is a gradual thing, where you're building your business and your clients. But I am really enjoying it and I think I made the right decision."
