Erik ten Hag was involved in a ‘furious bust-up’ with Anthony Martial before ordering him to train on his own at Manchester United.

Back in 2015, Martial left French side AS Monaco for United in a deal worth a reported fee of £36 million.

Despite scoring on his debut against Liverpool, Martial has generally been a disappointment.

To date, the Frenchman has made 317 appearances across all competitions, scoring 90 goals.

With his contract set to expire at the end of the 23/24 season, Martial’s time as a United player seems to be coming to an end.

On Wednesday night, it was reported that United boss Ten Hag has ordered Martial to train on his own.

According to the Daily Mail, the forward has been told to do solo training sessions as he is currently not deemed to be fit enough to work with the first team squad.

It has been claimed that the decision was not a disciplinary matter as individual training sessions are assigned to players returning from an injury.

Earlier in the season, Martial and Ten Hag were involved in a heated bust-up during United’s 1-0 defeat against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park.

The Dutchman was visibly animated as he gestured towards Martial towards the end of the first half.

Speaking about the incident, Ten Hag said after the match: “It's not about Anthony Martial; it's about the team. I try to energise the team and try to get a reaction from the team in this moment.

“As you see, we had a tough period and when you're coaching, you are a little more aggressive, so that's normal.”

Speaking about Martial being made to train on his own, former Aston Villa and England striker Gabby Agbonlahor said on talkSPORT: “It’s probably because Martial doesn’t want to leave. Maybe a chance to leave has been offered and he hasn’t so he’s [Ten Hag] banished him like he did to Jadon Sancho.

“Should Martial still be at Manchester United? No he shouldn't. He doesn’t put enough effort in but don't put him on his own. I don’t like the training on your own though, I don't like that.”

He added: “If it was a normal player, you train with the team and do extra with a fitness coach after training. He’s obviously been banished for a reason and Ten Hag’s done it again.”
