Anthony Martial offered for shock return to Premier League after three months as free agent

Former Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has been offered for a return to the Premier League following the end of the summer transfer window, it has been reported.

Martial, 30, is a free agent after leaving Mexican side Monterrey in June.

He had initially signed a two-year contract in 2025 to play for the Liga MX club, but the deal was terminated by mutual consent. Martial scored one goal in 20 appearances during his time in Mexico.

His status means that he can be signed and registered outside of the transfer window, making him eligible to play for any club who has a squad slot spare.

And he has been lined up for a surprise return to English football, two years after being released by Manchester United.

According to TEAMtalk, the France forward has been offered to Everton after the Toffees had a nightmare end to the transfer window.

They agreed a deal to sign Monaco striker Folarin Balogun, but the USA international decided not to join the club at the last minute despite being at the training ground.

Everton's decision to sell Beto to Fiorentina means that Thierno Barry is their only senior recognised striker until at least January.

They currently have a senior squad of just 21 players, which includes two back-up goalkeepers to Jordan Pickford and the currently injured midfielder Christian Norgaard.

It has been reported that Martial is 'open' to a return to the Premier League, and intermediaries have contacted seven clubs to make them aware that he is available.

The report claims that Everton, as well as Leeds, Crystal Palace, Brighton, Newcastle, Sunderland and Tottenham have all been approached by the intermediaries.

It is unclear whether any of the seven clubs are interested in signing Martial, who is attempting to find a new club following three months as a free agent.

He last played competitive football in March, starting in the second leg of Monterrey's defeat to Cruz Azul in the quarter-finals of the CONCACAF Champions League.

But should a scenario occur which sees Martial return to the Premier League, he would face the prospect of taking on United for the first time since leaving Old Trafford.

Following his United release, he joined Greek giants AEK Athens, scoring nine goals in 24 appearances in all competitions before moving to Mexico and Monterrey.

He turns 31 in December and will be hoping to secure a new club following the conclusion of the summer transfer window.
