Media in Mexico have made their feelings clear on Anthony Martial after just four appearances in a new environment.

Martial left Manchester United in 2024, ending a nine-year stint with the Red Devils where he scored 90 goals in 317 appearances.

He moved to Greek Super League side AEK Athens, penning a three-year deal and taking the No.26 shirt.

In 24 appearances in all competitions with AEK, he scored nine goals and registered two assists in all competitions.

But he only lasted a season, leaving Europe altogether to sign for Mexican giants Monterrey and linking up with Real Madrid and Spain icon Sergio Ramos.

Martial has only played four times since signing his two-year contract but already there are serious doubts that he will come good for Monterrey.

The ex Monaco and Lyon man has made just one start and a glorious missed chance in his last outing against Tijuana led to some criticism from AS Mexico.

who said: "The Frenchman is struggling to find the net and has not scored a goal for eight months. He has fallen far short of the expectations raised by his transfer.

"In his last game, Anthony Martial missed a clear goal-scoring opportunity that cost Monterrey the victory against Xolos. The Frenchman narrowly missed his first goal in Mexico, after missing a header from a few meters from the goal line while the Tijuana goalkeeper was practically beaten. An unacceptable error for a player of the quality of this 29-year-old footballer."

They pointed out that Martial's compatriot Allan Saint-Maximin has been much more effective at Club America, scoring twice in six games.

Record also weighed in, adding: “Martial’s mistake was so clear and so serious that the Frenchman himself seemed baffled.

“The Rayados number 9 squatted for several seconds after the shot, regained his posture, put his hands and shirt over his face in embarrassment, and had no choice but to thank and apologize to his teammates for the pass he couldn’t complete.”

Journalist Willie Gonzalez did not hold back, claiming that Martial "wears his cleats backward" and has "rackets on his feet" as "all the balls bounce off him".

Criticism came from former Cruz Azul player Christian “Chaco” Gimenez back in September, with the Fox Sports commentator unhappy with his body language and has mannerisms on the pitch.

He fumed: "Martial has been raising his arms to his teammates since he came on. We have to tell him that Mexican football isn’t doing him any favors.

“It really bothers me to talk about a player, but when they throw up their hands and send their teammates forward, it angers me.”

Monterrey are third in the league after 12 games and are back in action on 19 October when they take on Pumas UNAM.
