Liverpool have reportedly turned their attention to another star forward as a deal for Alexander Isak continues to hit roadblocks.

Despite securing a British transfer record deal for Florian Wirtz as well as completing moves for Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong and Hugo Ekitike, it appears Liverpool's business in the transfer window is far from over.

Several players have been linked with a move to Anfield over the summer, but it is clear that Newcastle United's Alexander Isak is the top target.

The Sweden international is said to be desperate to make the move to Anfield, leading to him refusing to train with his current teammates or compete in pre-season fixtures.

However, as the Isak saga continues to drag on, a new report has claimed that the Reds have moved quickly to agree personal terms with a different forward target.

Following the departure of starting winger Luis Diaz, who joined Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich as part of a £65.5million move, there has been much speculation about Arne Slot's plans regarding his front three.

Many have expected that this money would be reinvested in a deal involving Isak, but after Newcastle rejected a bid for £110m, a new report has claimed that Liverpool have now turned their attention to Real Madrid's Rodrygo.

According to ESPN Brazil, via The Standard, the Reds have already made contact with the winger and his agents ahead of a making their first formal bid.

Journalist Siro Lopez claimed that these talks have led to Rodrygo agreeing personal terms with the Reds, writing: "Liverpool have spoken to the entourage of Rodrygo, and the Real Madrid forward has approved an informal offer of personal terms."

What does this mean for Alexander Isak?

Although Liverpool signing Rodrygo may not necessarily rule out a transfer for Isak, it would certainly make it more unlikely given the expected costs of both deals.

Real Madrid will reportedly expect a fee of around £70m for , while Newcastle are demanding £150m for their star striker.

But with reports claiming that Isak's current situation with Newcastle has become very ugly, it's hard to see a world where he returns to St James' Park as if nothing has happened.

Explaining the situation on his YouTube channel, Sky Sports reporter and Newcastle insider Keith Downie said: “We know Alexander Isak is agitating to leave. We know he’s unsettled. We know his head has been turned.

"We know the reason he’s training out in the Basque region by himself is not because of injury—it’s because he’s annoyed, frustrated, upset that he feels Newcastle have reneged on a promise to give him more money or to allow him to leave.

"And the situation is becoming very, very ugly at the moment.”
