Liverpool set for behind-the-scenes changes as transfer plans made to support Alexander Isak

Liverpool have reportedly identified three players that they could sign to help Alexander Isak recapture his form.

After arriving from Newcastle United for a British record transfer fee of £125million, expectations on Isak were understandably high when he signed for Liverpool.

Ahead of the move to Anfield, the Swede had scored 54 goals in 86 league appearances and was among the Premier League's best players in the 2024/25 season.

However, it's safe to say that Isak is yet to come close to matching his pre-Liverpool form as of yet, with several injuries and a disrupted pre-season hindering his debut campaign, which has seen just four goals and no assists, with zero 90-minute appearances completed.

But Liverpool aren't prepared to give up on their star striker yet as the club have reportedly identified three players that could help him recapture his spark next season.

As reported by The i Paper, the upcoming departure of club legend Mohamed Salah and Hugo Ekitike’s serious injury have made the Liverpool board acutely aware that new forwards must be signed in the summer.

Top of the list of potential transfer targets is reportedly RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, who Liverpool view as the key to unlocking Isak once he's back fully fit.

The report claims that Liverpool are prepared to spend up to £75m for the 19-year-old winger who would be expected to inject pace on the right side of the attack and provide Isak more goalscoring opportunities.

Diomande has scored 13 goals and assisted nine across 35 appearances in all competitions for Leipzig this season.

Meanwhile, on the opposite flank, Bradley Barcola of Paris Saint-Germain is believed to be another possible target, having been linked with Liverpool in the past.

Barcola was recently named in Didier Deschamps' 26-man France squad for the World Cup and will likely demand a similar fee as that for Diomande, if not more.

The final player named as a potential option to help Isak at Liverpool is Diomande's RB Leipzig teammate Antonio Nusa, another explosive winger tipped as one of the most exciting prospects in Europe.

Will there be a change in leadership at Liverpool?

Throughout the latter part of the season, Liverpool manager Arne Slot's role at the club has been regularly under question.

Former Real Madrid manager and ex-Liverpool player Xabi Alonso has been regularly linked with a return to Anfield, but it now appears that Slot will remain in charge, while Alonso could yet join Chelsea.

However, there could yet be changes elsewhere in Liverpool's leadership as the i reports that sporting director Richard Hughes will join his former colleague Simon Francis at Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal at the end of the summer transfer window.

Other reports have disputed this, claiming that Hughes remains completely committed to Liverpool, but it remains to be seen if this will be the case or if he will make the move ahead of next season.
