Liverpool fans demand Arne Slot is sacked with millions signing viral petition

The Liverpool manager is facing increasing pressure following a disappointing second season in charge.

Liverpool fans have created a petition demanding that Arne Slot is sacked and it has picked up huge momentum.

Just over 12 months after leading Liverpool to their second title in the Premier League era, Slot is now facing calls from across the fanbase to be sacked in the coming weeks.

The Dutchman has come under fierce scrutiny throughout the season due to Liverpool's dramatic decline in both results and performances despite spending £446million to sign seven new players last summer.

As it stands, Liverpool are fourth in the Premier League table with a spot in the Champions League next season yet to be confirmed with just two matches left this season.

Slot has also led the Reds to 19 losses in all competitions this season, the joint most defeats in a season this century.

And it appears some fans have truly had enough as a new petition has gone viral online demanding Slot is sacked immediately following Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

The petition, simply titled 'Arne Slot Out', states: "Reds, make your voice heard. If you believe change is needed — sign this petition."

At the time of writing, it is rapidly approaching a million signatures, with 869,520 the current total, emphasising the frustrations within the Liverpool fan base at the moment.

Of course, this number should be taken with a grain of salt as there is no way to verify how many of the signatures have come from legitimate Liverpool fans rather than rivals or others.

It is also worth noting that all that is required to sign the petition is simply clicking a button on the webpage set up to host the campaign, with no account or personal details needed.

The petition comes just days after a similar campaign from Real Madrid fans went viral demanding star striker Kylian Mbappe be removed from the club.

Who is the favourite to replace Slot at Liverpool?

Regardless of the debate over the legitimacy of the petition, it is undeniable that a significant amount of Liverpool fans do not want Slot to be in the dugout next season.

Instead, it is former player Xabi Alonso that is believed to be the favourite, both among the fans and bookies, to replace Slot should he be sacked in the immediate future.

Alonso is believed to be considering his next career move after leaving Real Madrid in January, less than seven months after being appointed manager.

And according to some outlets, Liverpool have now made contact with the Spanish giants to see if they would endorse their former manager as a good option should Slot leave.

Other names that have been linked with the Liverpool job are Luis Enrique, Andoni Iraola and Julian Nagelsmann.
