Mo Salah 'to leave' Liverpool as shock new summer destination emerges

The Liverpool star has been strongly linked with a move away from Anfield this summer.

Mohamed Salah has been tipped to leave Liverpool when the summer transfer window opens, with two potential destinations available.

Following months of rumours surrounding Salah's uncertain future at Liverpool, the Egyptian penned a new deal with the club in April last year.

Salah's new contract saw him extend his stay at Anfield by two years, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2027.

However, since the start of the 2025/26 season, rumours about Salah's future have once again began to appear, fuelled by the 33-year-old's public fallout with Liverpool manager Arne Slot.

With it now looking increasingly likely that the Liverpool legend will leave in the summer, a new report has revealed a surprise new potential destination.

For several years, Salah has been strongly linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, with Liverpool rejecting a bid worth up to £150m from Al Ittihad in September 2023.

With BBC Sport reporting that Salah is "increasingly likely" to leave Liverpool this summer, it is almost certain that Saudi Arabia will remain a top option for Salah should he decide to leave the club.

The report adds that a move to the Saudi Pro League would depend on which sides within the league were interest, alongside the need for them to meet the forward's wage demands.

However, the report also claims that the Saudi Arabia isn't expected to be Salah's only option in the summer, as Salah could also secure a move to the United States.

With Liverpool keen to avoid their star player leaving the club as a free agent at the end of next season, it is likely that they would welcome bids from both the MLS and Saudi Pro League in the summer.

Who could replace Salah at Liverpool?

Should Liverpool and Salah part ways in the summer, then it is almost certain that the Reds will react with a major signing to replace his important role in the team.

Several big names have been linked with a move to Anfield should Salah leave Liverpool, including the likes of Bayern Munich's Michael Olise and Paris Saint-Germain star Desire Doue.

However, former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey has urged the Reds to go all out for another PSG forward, suggesting that Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is the ideal Salah replacement.

Speaking to OLBG, Heskey said: “We’re talking about replacing Mohamed Salah and I think as fans you’ve got to look at something different because you can’t replace Mo Salah.

“I remember one season I was speaking to someone who said Mo’s had a bad season. He’d scored 25 goals! I’d love to have had that bad of a season. We’re talking about someone scoring 20 plus, nearly 30 goals a season for 10 years.

“I don’t think you can replace Mo Salah, but I do like the lad from PSG, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. He would be my go-to.”
