Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has issued an interesting update on Mohamed Salah's future following the Egyptian's recent controversial interview.
Slot was speaking on Friday (December 12), ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Brighton at Anfield on Saturday (December 13), with Salah hinting that the game could be his last for the club when he spoke to the media following Liverpool’s 3-3 draw against Leeds United at Elland Road on December 6.
In a stunning chat with journalists, Salah claimed that he had been “thrown under the bus” for Liverpool’s poor start to the 2025/26 campaign, while also suggesting that he and Slot no longer have a relationship, as well as adding that he feels someone doesn’t want him at the club. This came after Salah signed a two-year deal with Liverpool just last April.
The 33-year-old has been benched for Liverpool’s matches against West Ham United, Sunderland, and Leeds United before being omitted entirely from the Reds’ squad ahead of the side’s 1-0 win against Inter in the Champions League.

And with Salah due to play for Egypt at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, which gets underway on December 21, some fans may be wondering if they will see the forward in a Liverpool shirt again.
As expected, Slot was asked about the situation in his pre-match press conference, to which he explained: "I will have a conversation with Mo this morning and the outcome determines [what comes next].
"What I need is a conversation with him and the next time I speak about Mo should be with him and not in here. There's not much more I can say. I speak to him today and the outcome determines how things will look tomorrow.
"You can try in multiple ways but I just said the next time I speak about him should be with him. I think there's been a lot of conversations since the last week between his reps and ours."
Slot was then pressed on whether it was his decision to leave Salah out of the squad for the Inter match before he explained that “we decided as a club”, while also admitting that he was still part of the call.
“When it comes to the decision-making of the line-up or the squad, that is down to me, but that is not to say I don't talk to them (Richard Hughes and FSG),” Slot added.
The Dutchman continued before saying that he had "no reasons to not want him to stay" at the club despite their fall out.
Salah has netted 250 goals and delivered 116 assists in 420 games for Liverpool since joining from Roma in 2017 for £34.3 million.
His almost nine-year spell at Liverpool has coincided with the club winning two Premier League crowns, the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, FA Cup, UEFA Super Cup, two Carabao Cups, and FA Community Shield.
