Ruben Amorim has made a major admission over his future amid links to the soon-to-be-vacant Liverpool job.

Ruben Amorim has made a major admission over his future amid links to the soon-to-be-vacant Liverpool job.

Amorim has been the favourite to take over from Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool at the end of the season ever since Xabi Alonso publicly committed his future to Bayer Leverkusen.

Sky in Germany even claimed earlier this week that the 39-year-old had reached a verbal agreement in principle with the Merseyside club.

However, the Sporting coach has since flatly denied that an interview has taken place with Liverpool and insisted his current focus is on winning the title in Portugal.

The Portuguese boss told a press conference: "This is the last time I'm going to talk about my future. There was no interview and certainly no agreement.

"The only thing we all want here is to be champions with Sporting, nothing will change. I'm the Sporting coach and there was no interview or agreement with any club.

"I'm just focused, as always, on representing my club. As I no longer have anything else to say…

"There will be no interviews or agreements with the Sporting coach. The matter is completely resolved, whether related to this club or another."

While it has been widely reported that Amorim is among the leading candidates to take over at Liverpool and Barcelona, the manager insisted that he has not yet finished his “cycle” in Portugal.

“A cycle has not yet ended and that depends on the characteristics of each one and on each other’s lives,” he told Record after his side’s 4-0 win over Gil Vicente.

“I think all coaches have their own timing and it has nothing to do with [interest] of clubs, but how the coaches feel. I’m speaking generally and not about my situation.

“I don’t feel like I’ve finished a cycle, I feel like I want to keep going so this isn’t over yet, we want to win and keep moving forward.”
