Florian Wirtz will be denied his favourite shirt number if he joins Liverpool in the summer transfer window, unless one major thing happens.

After lifting the 2024/25 Premier League trophy at Anfield on Sunday, Arne Slot's full attention will now turn to Liverpool's business in the summer transfer window.

Several players are expected to join the Reds ahead of next season, with Bayer Leverkusen star Wirtz perhaps the most exciting so far.

Despite interest from both Manchester City and Bayern Munich, the German international is expected to join Liverpool in the coming days as the first of several big summer signings.

But, Wirtz will face one major problem when he arrives at the Merseyside club, as he will not be able to take his dream shirt number unless there is a major change at Liverpool.

At Bayer Leverkusen, Wirtz has worn the prestigious number 10 shirt for the past two season and is believed to want to continue to do so at Liverpool.

However, Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister currently sports the No.10 shirt for the Reds and would be unlikely to want to give it up having worn it throughout his club career.

Several other club legends have worn the iconic number 10 shirt at Liverpool in recent years, including both Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho, making it one of the most in-demand shirts at the club.

But there is one way that Wirtz could secure his dream shirt, as recent reports have suggested that Mac Allister is currently being eyed up by Xabi Alonso's Real Madrid as the perfect successor to the departing Luka Modric.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, the Argentine international has impressed Real Madrid since arriving at Liverpool from Brighton in June 2023.

However, any move for the midfielder will be extremely difficult, with Liverpool believed to see Mac Allister as indispensable to Slot's system.

Instead, it is much more likely that Wirtz will opt to take the No.27 shirt, which is currently available at Liverpool, having worn the same number he wore as he broke into the senior ranks at Leverkusen.

For Germany, Wirtz wears the No.17, but this will also likely be unavailable unless Curtis Jones decides to leave Anfield this summer.
