Fabrizio Romano drops Florian Wirtz bombshell just hours after Liverpool lift Premier League title

The journalist has issued an update on the Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder on the day of Liverpool's trophy parade.

A huge update on the future of Florian Wirtz has been issued, and Liverpool fans will be delighted.

Wirtz, 22, has been linked with several clubs over the past few months, having impressed with Bayer Leverkusen and Germany in recent times.

Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Liverpool have all been mooted as possible destinations, although the Premier League champions have emerged as front-runners to sign the 22-year-old in recent weeks.

On Sunday (May 25), the Reds lifted the Premier League trophy in front of a jubilant Anfield, where the likes of Jurgen Klopp, Steven Gerrard and Kenny Dalglish watched on.

And despite winning the Premier League on his first attempt, Arne Slot could be set to welcome several players, including Wirtz, to the Merseyside club this summer.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano issued an update on Wirtz’s situation on Monday morning (May 26).

"Liverpool first official bid for Florian Wirtz in excess of €100m package with add-ons has been received by Bayer Leverkusen,” Romano wrote on X.

"Club to club negotiations underway, restarting today to get the deal done very soon.

"Wirtz already told Bayer that he only wants Liverpool."

Wirtz played a leading role in Leverkusen's 2023/24 double-winning campaign when they went unbeaten in the Bundesliga, won the DFB-Pokal and reached the Europa League final.

Slot has already outlined his thoughts on the potential for summer transfers.

Last week, he told BBC Sport that “it would be stupid” if Liverpool didn’t consider bolstering their squad.

"City will probably strengthen the squad again,” said Slot. “If the rumours are correct, Arsenal is planning the same, so it would be stupid if we are not looking at trying to strengthen the squad as well.

"Again, I've said it many times, it's not that easy because this team has already won the league. So to find players that can strengthen us - that might not be that difficult - because there are certain players in the world where I think, 'if they would come, it would be nice'.

"But they're also playing at clubs where they don't want to leave. So there are not many that can strengthen us, but the few that are out there, we will try to get them.

"At this moment of time, we're not sure if that's possible."
