Arne Slot has hit out at one player over their behaviour after a horror performance during the Premier League match against Aston Villa.

On Wednesday night, Liverpool's title charge took another blow as they drew 2-2 with Unai Emery's Aston Villa at Villa Park, meaning the Reds have just one win from their last four matches.

A goal from Liverpool star Mohamed Salah put the visitors ahead shortly before the half hour mark, but goals from Youri Tielemans and Ollie Watkins meant that Trent Alexander-Arnold had to step up and score the equaliser in the match.

However, the Liverpool defender's equaliser wasn't the last big moment for the visitors, as striker Darwin Nunez missed a massive opportunity to nick a victory late in the match, and Slot couldn't believe it.

In the 70th minute of the match, Nunez was gifted perhaps the best chance in the whole game as teammate Dominik Szoboszlai handed him a shot at an open goal just metres out, only for the Uruguayan to fire it over the crossbar.

Despite the frustrations of both fans and his teammates, Nunez was later spotted laughing and joking with Villa goalkeeper, leading to some fans claiming that he is no longer treating the title charge as seriously as he should be.

And it appears that that opinion is shared by Slot, who called out the 25-year-old ahead of Sunday's crucial clash with Manchester City.

Speaking after the game, the Dutch manager said: "I can accept every miss especially from a player who scored two important goals against Brentford.

"What is harder for me to accept is the behaviour after that chance. It was not the usual Darwin who works his a** off. He was too disappointed at missing that chance.

"You can miss a chance, but you cannot miss out on work rate, it's not part of the job of a No.9 to slow down in work rate, it's something we will talk about."

Immediately after the Villa game, Slot defended the Liverpool star, making fans aware that nobody was more disappointed about the missed chance than Nunez.

Speaking post-match, he said: “ “I saw an unbelievable pass from Conor Bradley, a powerful run from Dominik Szoboszlai, who made in my opinion the perfect choice to square because he made it an open-goal chance and then Darwin, it was not the best, he’s right-footed, of course, but it’s still a big chance.

"I was hoping he would get another chance. We were all disappointed but it’s normal that a player like this is a bit more disappointed. There is one player in the dressing room who feels quite down. You know who it is.”
