Several Liverpool fans have slammed Arne Slot following the side’s torrid showing in the 4-2 defeat away at Aston Villa – and some have suggested the Dutchman has ruined the farewells of both Andrew Robertson and Mohamed Salah.
On Friday (May 15), Unai Emery’s rampant Villa side were a class above Slot’s Liverpool team, with the Midlands club moving three points clear of their Champions League rivals with one match remaining.
Morgan Rogers opened the scoring on 41 minutes, giving Villa the lead heading into half-time before Virgil van Dijk nodded the Reds level on 51 minutes.
But from this point, Villa’s dominance shone through, with Ollie Watkins putting the home side 2-1 up on 56 minutes before his second of the evening gave his side a two-goal buffer with less than 20 minutes to play.

Emery’s side could have, and perhaps should have, scored more, with Emiliano Buendía’s stunning curling effort somehow staying out after crashing against the woodwork from range.
However, John McGinn’s curling strike made it 4-1 to the Villains with just two minutes of normal time to play. Van Dijk did pull one back for Liverpool in stoppage time, but this did not stop fans and pundits from slamming the side after the defeat.
Arne Slot under pressure at Liverpool
Former Liverpool captain and Sky Sports commentator Jamie Carragher did not hold back in his assessment of the lacklustre showing, even suggesting the Reds have too many “weak” players in the squad.
“Liverpool have far too many weak players – physically and mentally – and it has to be fixed,” he said.
“It looks like Arne Slot is going to be the man who has to fix it next season.
“But this result does nothing in terms of the feelings of the supporters around his position right now.
“Liverpool don’t excel at anything. They look like a really, really average team. They have been taken to the cleaners.”
Meanwhile, some fans focused on the fact that Salah and Robertson’s farewell game against Brentford at Anfield next Sunday (May 24) has been ruined, with Liverpool now potentially needing to win to avoid being caught by sixth-placed Bournemouth, who also harbour hopes of Champions League qualification.
One said: “The Brentford game should have been a massive celebration for Mo and Andy Robbo. That it won’t be is a f****** disgrace. The manager absolutely needs to be held accountable, but he’s not the only one.”
Another reacted: “Exactly what I was saying last week. If we put in the same performance, it’s going to be toxic. Mo and Robbo don’t deserve that.”
A third commented: “Should be sacked tonight and allow Robbo and Mo the day they deserve!”
