Arne Slot has a priceless response to being asked about reports of Jeremie Frimpong being on the verge of signing for Liverpool.

Slot spoke to Sky Sports after seeing his side lose 3-2 away at Brighton on Monday night despite leading at half-time through goals from Harvey Elliott and Dominik Szoboszlai.

The Reds boss spent time analysing the loss, which came after goals from Kauru Mitoma and Jack Hinshelwood, as well as various other topics.

But he was also quizzed on transfers and particularly links to Frimpong, who has a £29.5 million release clause in his Bayer Leverkusen contract.

Having only made just a single signing last summer, Liverpool appear to be moving quickly this time around - with Sky claiming that a deal is close for Frimpong as they try and seal a transfer for Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez.

The outlet also reported that the former Celtic star has successfully undergone a medical.

However, Slot was a little coy about the expected arrival of his compatriot in his post-match chat. When the reporter asked, "Jeremie Frimpong, rumoured to have had a medical, true or not?", Slot simply replied, "What do you think!"

He then added: "I think what we all know is the moment we announce it, that is the moment to talk about it. We haven't announced it, so no need to talk about anyone."

Playing as a right wing-back, Frimpong has 19 goals and 24 assists in the past two seasons and was a key part of the side which won the domestic double under Bayer Leverkusen in 2023/24.

He signed from Celtic for £11.5 million in January 2021 and the Glasgow giants are said to be entitled to £5 million through a sell-on clause.

Jeremie Frimpong signing allows Liverpool to exploit loophole

A replacement of sorts for the departing Trent Alexander-Arnold, Netherlands international Frimpong is set to qualify as a homegrown player.

Although born in Amsterdam, the 24-year-old moved to England with his family when he was young and spent nine years in the academy-set up at Manchester City but failed to make a first-team appearance.

He was therefore eligible to play for both England and Ghana but ultimately committed his international future to the Netherlands, playing 12 times since his debut in 2023.
