Liverpool in talks to sign 'genius' player after Jeremie Frimpong and he could be the bargain of the summer

Liverpool are in talks for another huge signing after reportedly wrapping up a deal for Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong.

The Merseyside outfit made just a single signing in Arne Slot's first transfer window, bringing in Federico Chiesa in a cheap deal from Juventus.

But after guiding Liverpool to a 20th league title in his first campaign, Slot is set to be heavily backed in the summer and allowed to bring in plenty of reinforcements at Anfield.

A priority will be to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is set to sign for Real Madrid on a free transfer when his Liverpool deal expires.

It appears as though Liverpool are close to securing a first signing of the summer, with German outlet Kicker reporting that the Reds are nearing a €40 million deal for Frimpong.

The former Manchester City academy player has been a key member of Xabi Alonso's side, with 19 goals and 24 assists across the past two seasons as a right wing-back.

He is poised to pen a contract until 2030 but Liverpool's business is not expected to end there.

According to Le Parisien, Liverpool are one of three English sides to have made an enquiry for Lyon talisman Rayan Cherki - who has 12 goals and 19 assists in 43 games this season.

Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are also believed to have asked about the 21-year-old, who was hailed as a "genius" and looked close to signing for Manchester United when he was 15.

Cherki was on the verge of signing for Paris Saint-Germain last summer only for the player to change his mind and decide on moving to Borussia Dortmund, though no deal came off as the club did not secure an agreement with Lyon.

He stayed put and signed a new contract with Lyon but the club have agreed to low him to move on for just €22.5 million (£19 million) this summer and the race for his signature is heating up.

Cherki is incredibly versatile and can play in a number of positions to give Liverpool multiple options in attack.
