Lionel Messi has been linked with a return to European football.
Eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi has scored 18 MLS goals and registered 10 assists this term as Inter Miami, and is said to be in talks to extend his contract in Florida.
The 38-year-old’s current deal expires in December, however Inter Miami president Jorge Mas told ESPN last month that the team will take whatever measure necessary to ensure Messi remains at the club beyond the year.
Nevertheless, this week Como coach Cesc Fabregas said that he hasn’t ruled out the possibility of Messi one day signing with the Italian club.
Messi’s wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, was spotted with the couple’s three children watching a Como pre-season game against Lille last week, leading to speculation the Inter Miami skipper may be considering a move to the Italian outfit.
Asked if Messi could in the future play for Como, Fabregas told reporters on Tuesday: "Never say never.
"She [Antonela] was here over at my house on vacation for a week with us because Leo [Messi] was going to be a week away playing in Cincinnati and in New York.
"They [Messi's family] took advantage to take a trip and see friends. We are very close friends, our wives are very good friends, our children are of similar ages.
Lionel Messi at Inter Miami "After the [Lille] game, I told [Como sporting director] 'Charly' Ludi that we can never say that Messi didn't play at Como because his children were playing here and it's always beautiful because of the history we have.
"But no, he [Messi] is very happy in America so let's be calm."
Fabregas and Messi were team-mates at Barcelona, and the respective families are believed to be close.
Fabregas, who led Como to a 10th-placed Serie A finish, is contracted at the Lombardy club until June 2028.
