FPL managers have figured out two 'trap' transfers over 3m managers have already made ahead of GW5

Millions of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers have fallen into a potential trap by selecting two players who produced double-digit hauls in Gameweek 4.

In the penultimate gameweek before the international break, FPL's budget enablers continued to steal the headlines. Jayden Bogle (£4.5m) was the highest-scoring defender with 15 points after scoring and collecting three bonus points during Leeds United's 4-1 victory over Newcastle United.

The 2.7 per cent of managers who own him also earned an extra four clean-sheet points after he was substituted in the 82nd minute, before Newcastle grabbed a late consolation through Bazoumana Traore. Over 67,000 players have since transferred Bogle in ahead of gameweek five for their favourable home fixture against Crystal Palace, while millions of others have already looked elsewhere for a budget defender.

FPL managers are falling into a trap with Maxim De Cuyper and Pascal Gross

Leeds weren't the only team to secure a handsome victory in gameweek four, as Brighton & Hove Albion thrashed Coventry City 5-1 at the CBS Arena.

Four of their players produced double-digit hauls in FPL, including defenders Lewis Dunk (12) and Maxim De Cuyper (11), midfielder Pascal Gross (17), and forward Charalampos Kostoulas (10).

In fact, with a goal, two assists, and three bonus points, Gross scored more points than any other player across the gameweek and is proving to be one of the best value picks of the season.

Beginning the campaign at £5.5m, the 35-year-old is remarkably the highest-scoring midfielder (33) in the game, three ahead of Arsenal's Bukayo Saka and Brentford's Kevin Schade.

Likewise, defender De Cuyper - who has played the first four games out of position as a left winger in Koaru Mitoma's absence - has delivered a whopping 32 points so far, with only Josko Gvardiol (33) and Bogle (37) producing more.

Therefore, it's hardly surprising that 2,202,980 managers have transferred in De Cuyper and a further 1,077,754 have brought in Gross ahead of gameweek five, perhaps in the hope that they continue their stunning start to the season.

The duo have skyrocketed in popularity after delivering across fixtures against Aston Villa, Chelsea, Leeds United and Coventry, but over three million managers are falling into a 'trap' for the upcoming gameweeks.

It's common for the less-engaged managers to not look at fixtures when assessing whether a player can continue to return, with Brighton about to embark on a rotten run of matches.

The Seagulls play Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City in three of their next five, which gives De Cuyper and Gross fewer chances of returning points for the millions of managers who own them.

FPL managers should target these two players instead

The ship may have sailed on buying De Cuyper and Gross, at least for their matches straight after the international break, and managers could look elsewhere.

For just £0.2m more than De Cuyper, players can buy Nottingham Forest defender Neco Williams, who has the potential to explode in the upcoming weeks.

Williams has returned 17 points from Forest's first four matches, including an assist in a 2-2 draw against Liverpool, and the Welshman plays Coventry City, Crystal Palace, Ipswich Town and Brentford in four of his next five.

An attacking threat from left wing-back and boasting clean sheet potential in Oliver Glasner's well-oiled machine, the 25-year-old is a potential must-buy before the break.

Instead of Gross, meanwhile, managers could target Fulham starlet Josh King for £0.1m less in preparation for their favourable run of fixtures.

The Cottagers have only returned one point from four matches, but King has become a talisman for Alvaro Arbeloa with goals against Chelsea and Crystal Palace.

Encouragingly, Fulham play all three promoted teams straight after the three-week break, and the 19-year-old could be a budget-enabler with huge upside.
