Julian Nagelsmann resigned as manager of Germany after a disappointing World Cup campaign, as the nation were eliminated from the competition at the round of 32 by Paraguay, which has since seen Jurgen Klopp linked with the job.
The former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund manager was the obvious favourite to succeed Nagelsmann after his work across his managerial career, particularly his recent stint with the Premier League club in which he guided them to a title in 2020 and lifted the Champions League trophy in 2019.
Klopp had been linked with several jobs since stepping away from his managerial role with Liverpool at the end of the 2024 season, with Real Madrid being heavily linked to the German manager.
However, he has now confirmed that he is in ‘talks’ with the German Football Association to succeed Nagelsmann.

“I’m ready. Once the talks begin, your mind starts racing. We have to change things fundamentally.”
Yet, Klopp has raised one issue that he must overcome to be announced as the next manager of Germany, as he is currently under contract with Red Bull.
In October 2024, Klopp signed with Red Bull as their new Head of Global Football on a four-year contract; however, it was believed that he had an exit clause in his contract that allowed him to apply for the German national job.
Klopp explained how he may get over this stumbling block, as he stated: “Time. I’m under contract with Red Bull. I’ve said I’m interested in the talks. They will be intensive because this isn’t only about Julian Nagelsmann.”
“I also have to speak with Oliver Mintzlaff. He’s my employer. We’ve already touched on a few things. I assume he won’t stand in the way. I’ve been there for 19 months. It was an intense time.”
