UEFA has blocked a legendary stadium from hosting a final after key concerns were raised.

Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham will slug it out for the first UEFA prize of the new season as they meet in Wednesday's Super Cup.

PSG won last season's Champions League following their 5-0 demolition of Inter Milan in Munich, while Spurs edged out Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final in Bilbao.

The Super Cup takes place in Udine, Italy, at Udinese's Bluenergy Stadium, which has a capacity of around 25,000.

Both PSG and Spurs will be looking to bag the Super Cup as they aim for Champions League glory this season.

The 2025/26 Champions League final takes place in Budapest, Hungary, at the Puskas Arena.

And UEFA suspended the decision on the host appointment for the 2026/27 final during a meeting last year.

They appeared to assign the staging of its showpiece event to the San Siro in Milan, Italy - home of AC Milan and Inter Milan.

But UEFA blocked the San Siro from being selected for the final because the municipality of Milan could not guarantee that refurbishment works would not affect the stadium and its surroundings during the event.

There have been plans to renovate the San Siro in the coming years, although Reuters reported that both Milan and Inter believed such plans were 'not feasible'.

However, there is a possibility that the stadium may require work ahead of Euro 2032, which is being hosted by Italy and Turkey.

Italy has also secured the hosting rights for the 2026 Winter Olympics, which could also have an impact on plans for the San Siro.

The Athletic report that UEFA have been concerned over a 'lack of clarity' surrounding the stadium's refurbishment plans.

In particular, they are said to be worried over whether any refurbishment plans would impact on the stadium during 2027, and therefore on its hosting of the final.

The final decision on who will host the 2027 Champions League final is expected next month.

It is between Azerbaijan's Baku Olympic Stadium and Spain's Metropolitano Stadium.

Baku hosted the 2019 Europa League final between Chelsea and Arsenal, while Madrid's Metropolitano Stadium - home of Atletico Madrid - staged the 2019 Champions League final between Spurs and Liverpool.
