Liverpool make Yankuba Minteh transfer decision after hearing latest injury news

Liverpool have made a decision on their pursuit of Brighton star Yankuba Minteh amid his injury issues.

The Reds, who kicked off the new season with a last-gasp 2-2 draw with Newcastle on Sunday, have made just three significant signings in the summer transfer window.

Jeremy Jacquet arrived from Rennes, while fellow centre-back Ronald Araujo signed on loan from Barcelona.

Liverpool also snapped up Spain international Victor Munoz for a fee of £34.5 million who won a penalty on his debut at St James' Park.

But the Merseyside outfit are desperate for more attacking reinforcements, with Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola known to be a top target.

Liverpool are still working on a deal for the France international, but they have also been pushing hard to sign Brighton's Minteh.

According to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany, Liverpool are still in negotiations with Brighton about Minteh.

The Gambian is currently out with an injury, having undergone surgery on his ankle following a pre-season game against Roma earlier this month.

Signing an injured player would be considered a risk, particularly given Minteh is not expected to be fit until another two or three months and Liverpool could do with him immediately.

However, it's claimed that it has not put Liverpool off, as they still really want him regardless of the latest prognosis.

That is largely because Minteh is a left-footed winger who can play off the right flank - making him a direct replacement for Mo Salah after he left on a free and joined Trabzonspor in Turkey.

Liverpool have had offers of £50 million and £60 million rejected, but the Liverpool Echo says that they are contemplating making a third bid for Minteh.

Brighton want more than £70 million for the former Newcastle United man, who is still only 22 and has a contract until 2029.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that there is a verbal agreement between Liverpool and Minteh on personal terms, but the fee remains a sticking point.

Liverpool receive encouragement in Bradley Barcola pursuit

Liverpool could well sign Minteh and Barcola to give the Reds real quality in wide areas, and there has been encouragement regarding the latter.

He was left out of the PSG squad for the 2-2 draw with Rennes at the weekend, and he does not appear to have a future at the Parc des Princes, especially after the arrivals of Mika Godts, Ferran Torres and Maghnes Akliouche.

PSG sporting advisor Luis Campos said "we’ll see what happens" when discussing Barcola's situation.

According to TEAMtalk, PSG are now willing to offload Barcola for around £120 million.

They previously wanted at least £145 million for the 23-year-old, which would have been a new Premier League record transfer.

With their squad looking light, Liverpool are expected to be busy before the transfer window shuts on September 1.
