Cole Palmer slams half-time interviews and reveals the surprise new football tradition he likes

Cole Palmer slammed half-time interviews as he weighed in some of the most controversial subjects in football.

Ahead of the new Premier League season, Palmer spoke exclusively to SPORTbible and took part in the "Game's Gone or Fair Play" segment.

The Chelsea star was quizzed on a number of traditions and practices of the modern game that regularly divide opinions.

And Palmer did not hold back when he was asked about half-time interviews, which have recently been introduced.

The chats prior to the start of the second half have been part of Sky Sports and TNT Sports' coverage of the Premier League, with managers participating and players occasionally interviewed.

Throughout the World Cup, England assistant manager Anthony Barry spoke to ITV and BBC at half-time - giving tactical insight into the Three Lions.

His first interview saw him criticise the first half against Croatia, while he was particularly emotional at the halfway mark of the pulsating 6-4 third place play-off victory against France.

Palmer, however, is not a fan and put half-time interviews in the 'Game's Gone' section.

Explaining his view, Palmer said: "Imagine you’re getting battered and you have to do an interview".

However, he is open to another controversial element brought in at the halfway point after the first ever half-time show took place at the 2026 World Cup final in New Jersey.

The performance led to a 27-minute interval while Justin Bieber, Shakira, Madonna, Burna Boy and BTS performed but Palmer does not share the same view as many.

Asked about half-time shows, he replied: “Whatever. I don’t mind. Then we get a longer break!”

Similarly, Palmer doesn't have an issue with players cutting holes in socks - even though he doesn't do it himself.

He stated: "I don’t have big calves so it doesn’t matter to me". Fair play was the response given to stutter penalties and kick-off routines but Palmer is against goal music and half and half scarves - stating, “I just don’t like them".

Bookings for celebrations were also categorised as 'Game's Gone', along with supporting more than one club.

Palmer started the new season under new Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso in stunning fashion with a mesmeric display in the 3-2 win over Fulham on Monday night.

The Spaniard has already been putting his stamp on the team and Palmer is already enjoying what he's brought to the table.

He admitted: “Everyone’s been really impressed with him, his details and his man management and his ideas have been very good.”

Chelsea have a plethora of new players in their ranks, including Maxence Lacroix, Marco Pelistra, Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson.

Their biggest signing has undoubtedly been the addition of Morgan Rogers, who has arrived for a record £117 million and scored on his debut at Craven Cottage.

Palmer and Rogers are long-time pals from their time in Manchester City's youth academy and share the same 'ice cold' celebration. Now neighbours and teammates, they've been spending time away from the pitch.

He commented: “I’m happy he’s here. We’ve been going round to each other’s houses and watched the City vs Arsenal game. We’ve just been chilling.”
