Cole Palmer's response to 'how ready are you for this season' question is going viral

As well as being the standout performer against Fulham on Monday night, the Chelsea forward delivered off the pitch, producing a typically nonchalant response in his post-match interview with Sky Sports.

The 24-year-old, who struggled with injuries and form last season, made a statement of intent at Craven Cottage in what was a revitalised forward line featuring summer signing Morgan Rogers.

In fact, Chelsea's front three of Rogers, Palmer and Joao Pedro were all on target in a 3-2 win.

It was an impressive display from Palmer, who posted some impressive numbers against Fulham. As well as scoring Chelsea's third, he recorded five dribbles, seven ball recoveries and won 10 duels.

He also created three chances and notched an assist for Joao Pedro's opener. As per Opta, Palmer was only the second player on record since 2006-07 to record all of those numbers in a Premier League game.

In his post-match interview, the former Manchester City man was asked how ready he felt for the challenges ahead.

"Did you not watch the game?" he told Sky Sports with a grin. "I'm only joking, I'm ready you know. It was a difficult season with injuries and whatnot, but through the summer and since I've been back I've worked extra hard."

Palmer added: "Obviously with the injuries I've had to try and prevent them and work extra hard day in, day out. I know the talent I've got so I can put in performances like that."

After being left out of England's World Cup squad by Thomas Tuchel, Palmer admitted that watching from the sidelines this summer has only helped his preparations for the upcoming campaign.

"Normally I'm not an emotional person, the people who know me know I'm not usually bothered about things in life, but over the summer I rested, I recharged and yeah, I'm ready, and I'm hungry," he added.

Xabi Alonso praises Cole Palmer for performance against Fulham

Palmer's display on Monday night was lauded by many, including new Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso.

"I really enjoyed his performance," Alonso said. "He played with responsibility and maturity, but also freedom. It is really important to me that we get the best out of Cole."

The Spaniard added: "I am happy for him and if we are going to have a good team, then we need a great Cole."
