Carlos Tevez earned a staggering amount of money from what he described as a 'seven-month holiday' playing in the Chinese Super League.

Tevez was part of a huge influx of some of the world's top players to China in 2016, as he signed a contract with Shanghai Shenhua in December of that year.

But despite reportedly being the highest-paid player in the league, the Argentinian scored just four goals in 20 games in all competitions.

He was called out for being 'overweight' by Shanghai Shenhua manager Wu Jingui, Tevez was told he was not available for selection until he was fit.

The iconic striker sparked fury among supporters of the club when he was pictured at Disney World with his family while his team were playing - with Tevez said to be injured.

The Daily Mail also reported that the Argentinian didn't enjoy much of the Chinese food on offer and often made other arrangements instead.

After his miserable spell at Shenhua, Tevez rejoined boyhood club Boca Juniors in January 2018. He would retire from football in 2022.

Speaking to TyC Sports upon his arrival back at Boca, he joked: "It's fine, because I was on vacation for seven months. When I landed in China, I wanted to return to Boca."

But how much did Tevez earn while playing in the Chinese Super League?

It was reported that the striker earned a staggering £615,000-a-week while at Shenhua, making him one of the highest-paid players in the world at the time.

Some outlets claimed his wage was as high as £650,000-a-week, though Tevez said that amount he was earning had been exaggerated.

His £615,000 figure, though, would have seen him earn £32 million across the full calendar year that he was playing in China.

Since retiring as a player, Tevez has moved into management with Rosario Central and Independiente in his native Argentina. He resigned from his role at Independiente boss in July.
