Ronaldinho Arrested In Paraguay For Allegedly Having A Fake Passport

Ronaldinho has reportedly been arrested in Paraguay for allegedly using 'false documentation' in the form of a fake passport.

The Brazilian legend was questioned alongside his brother Roberto on Wednesday evening according to La Nacion.

Passports were reportedly found in their hotel room which had the duo's personal information listed with their nationality as Paraguayan.

Paraguayan authorities are set to make an announcement in the coming days and both brothers remained in their hotel.

"[Ronaldinho and his brother] are not being detained, they are still under judicial investigation and they have to testify. Then it will be decided whether they will be arrested or not," Paraguay's interior minister Euclides Acevedo told ESPN Brasil.

"Prosecutors investigate Brazilian player Ronaldinho's documents and passports.

"Prosecution officials Federico Delfino, Alicia Sapriza and Marcelo Pecci led an investigation and carried out a joint operation with the National Police.

"It was carried out in a presidential suite at the Yacht and Paraguayan Club Hotel Resort in the city of Lambare.

"Ronaldo de Assis Moreira, alias 'Ronaldinho' and his brother Roberto de Assis Moreira, were staying at that resort.

"According to the information received, they had Paraguayan passports when they entered the country on Wednesday afternoon.

"These documents are being analysed so their authenticity can be established. Two passports, a national ID document and mobile phones have been confiscated.

"Ronaldinho and his brother said they had been invited to Paraguay by Nelson Belotti, owner of the Il Palazzo casino, and had been contacted by the representative of a foundation called Fraternidad Angelical about participating in some charity events.

The two brothers remain free to move around their suite at the resort but will remain there under custody."

The former Barcelona man is currently without a Brazilian passport due to a prior environmental fine in his homeland.

He and his brother were convicted of illegally building a fishing trap in Brazil without proper licensing.

The duo failed to pay a £6.5 million fine and were prevented to leave the country by Brazil's Superior Court of Justice.

It didn't stop the World Cup winner being named one of the countries ambassadors for tourism late last year.

"Tourism is very important for generating jobs and regaining our image internationally," Ronaldinho explained at his unveiling.
