Man Utd fans send savage message to Marcus Rashford and Diogo Dalot in ugly scenes after Brighton game

Several Manchester United supporters appeared to send a brutal message to Marcus Rashford and Diogo Dalot following Michael Carrick’s side’s 3-2 Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton.

Despite United taking an early two-goal lead through Shea Lacey’s stunner and Mason Mount’s strike, Carrick’s side’s poor start to the 2026/27 campaign continued as the Seagulls came from behind at Old Trafford.

Charalampos Kostoulas pulled one back for the south coast side in first-half stoppage time before Pascal Groß levelled the scores, making it 2-2 in the 65th minute.

In the 69th minute, Maxim De Cuyper put Brighton ahead, and despite Carrick bringing captain Bruno Fernandes on with 18 minutes remaining, the Portuguese failed to make a positive impact.

It was also the first time in 50 years that United had lost a game after leading by two goals.

Several senior players were criticised by fans for their performances, with Rashford and Dalot on the receiving end of boos and even calls for them to leave as they departed Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, fans offered their thoughts on social media.

One said: “We blew a two-goal lead then told Rashford and Dalot to leave, as if this club hasn’t been running the same two-act play since 2018. We’ll still pick them again next week and act shocked when it happens.”

Another added: “Yeah, well done to the fans for making their feelings known! Absolute disgrace these two.”

A third commented: “Man, I get it, but I can’t even imagine how it must feel as a player losing a game then hearing this.”

Brighton will take on the winner of Manchester City vs Norwich City in the fourth round.

Carrick ‘not bothered’ by pressure after Brighton defeat

Despite the poor run of form and underwhelming start to the season, Carrick believes his players “can turn it around”.

When asked for his thoughts on United’s performance, he said: “We can't accept that as a group.

“I take responsibility for it. The performance towards the end of the second half, that's on me.

“We'll all be better. We have to be better. We're out of this competition, and we have to go back to winning football matches. It doesn't feel good at the moment. It doesn't feel good.

“We want to win and want to win quickly. The next game is Sunday. That's all I'm thinking about right now.”

He added: “I don't feel under pressure.

“Either way, that doesn't bother me one bit. It generally doesn't bother me one bit.

“I understand what goes on outside and how the world works, but it doesn't bother me. What bothers me is winning games and having a good feeling around the place.

“We've got to win football matches, and we can do. I fully believe we will do. But obviously we've got to do it pretty quick and Sunday [against Fulham] is a starting point.”
