Thomas Tuchel announces England squad with 10 new call-ups after World Cup

England manager Thomas Tuchel has named his 27-man squad for the upcoming Nations League matches against Spain, Czech Republic and Croatia.

The Three Lions boss has recalled Real Madrid right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold and Chelsea's Cole Palmer after they were left out of his squad for the World Cup.

There are also places for Liverpool winger Rio Ngumoha, Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott and in-form Leeds United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin among a group of 10 players who weren't included in Tuchel's final 26 in May.

Tuchel has made wholesale changes after the World Cup

There's also a place in the squad proper for Jason Steele, who has been around the team under Tuchel and is one of his three goalkeepers in the new squad with Dean Henderson not expected to return from injury until after the international matches.

In all, there were nine players in the final World Cup squad who have not been included for England's first games of the 2026-27 season.

Central defenders John Stones and Dan Burn have been omitted along with full-backs Djed Spence and Reece James. Stones, James and Spence are all dealing with injury issues, as is midfielder Jordan Henderson.

Arsenal's Noni Madueke and strikers Ivan Toney and Ollie Watkins, both now playing in Saudi Arabia, have been dropped.

The World Cup semi-finalists get their Nations League campaign underway against Spain at Wembley on Saturday 26 September.

They'll take on Czech Republic in Prague three days later, before travelling to Rijeka to play Croatia in a match that will be played behind closed doors for all but 100 England travel club members.

Croatia are also banned from having their supporters at their next away game as part of the sanctions handed down by UEFA after issues with 'racism and discrimination' when they played France in the Nations League 18 months ago.

England reached the semi-finals of the World Cup in Tuchel's first major tournament, losing 2-1 to Argentina in Atlanta.
