Fan Sacked After Telling Work He Was Stuck Abroad But Then Appeared On TV During Scottish Cup Final

The Rangers fan is in big trouble.

A Rangers fan is getting his contracts terminated after telling his work that he was still abroad, but then was caught by TV cameras during the Scottish Cup final in Glasgow.

The fan, Thomas Meikle told his employers that he was still in Seville after watching his side in the Europa League final but he was actually readying himself to see Rangers play Hearts at Hampden Park.

An easy lie to tell as the chances of your boss from work spotting you amongst tens of thousands of fans in a football stadium are surely very slim.

However, for Meikle, the BBC camera crew landed him in big trouble, he took to social media and posted a video on Twitter of him being caught red handed on TV celebrating in the closing stages of the match, with Rangers leading 2-0.

Meikle tweeted: “Can’t believe my contracts getting terminated because I told my work I was still in Seville so I could go to the Scottish cup final…then I got put on the tele, busted. @BBCScotland absolute grasses.”

He may now be in trouble with his work but at least he had the pleasure of watching his side win the Scottish Cup, goals from substitutes Ryan Jack and Scott Wright in extra time secured the cup for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side after the game ended 0-0 after 90 minutes. This was the first piece of silverware for the Dutch manager after he replaced Steven Gerrard.

It was also the first time in 13 years that the Ibrox club has claimed the trophy.

The cup final win eased the pain of losing the Europa League final three days prior. Joe Aribo put Rangers in front in Seville after 57 minutes but the lead only lasted 12 minutes as Eintracht Frankfurt’s Rafael Borre got the equaliser for the German club. The game ended 1-1 after 120 minutes and it was heartbreak for Rangers as late substitute Aaron Ramsey missed the only penalty in the shoot out and Frankfurt was crowned Europa League winners.

Rangers finished the season second in the Scottish Premiership, six points behind bitter rivals Celtic. The Ibrox club will be hungrier than ever next season as they look to regain the title and will be aiming for yet another deep run in the European Cup.
