Despite some debate online about who would start the game, Xabi Alonso named a full strength team for the match, with the likes of Cole Palmer, Joao Pedro and Morgan Rogers all starting.
And yet it was unlikely star Henderson that opened the scoring after just two minutes, before assisting Chelsea's second goal, scored by Rogers, just seconds later.
Chelsea went on to dominate the rest of the match, with Pedro netting two either side of a goal for Bournemouth scored by Evanilson.
Then, in the 70th minute, Henderson scored his second goal of the match thanks to a stellar free kick and immediately attracted attention and backlash from some fans online for tapping Chelsea's badge in celebration.
Reacting to the moment, one Liverpool fan wrote: "Jordan Henderson tapping the Chelsea badge. He’s Liverpools greatest PL captain ffs."
A Chelsea fan agreed, adding: "Liverpool let Jordan Henderson go just for him to turn up today and start scoring braces? The disrespect to Liverpool fans is actually personal at this point."
While another angry Liverpool fan wrote: "I was just praising Jordan Henderson to my mate. For his footballing abilities, leadership abilities, and that we should never have let him go.
"He then bangs in a free kick. Quality. He then tapped the Chelsea badge during his celebration. Dead to me."
The match against Bournemouth was only Henderson's second appearance for Chelsea since his arrival over the summer.
