Danny Rose was granted his wish to play for Spurs "one last time" - turning out for the club's Under 21 side despite being contracted to Watford.

The left-back still has another year on his deal at Vicarage Road following their relegation to the Championship but is desperate to leave the Hornets.

And on Tuesday night, Rose was named in the starting XI for a youthful Spurs side who played against Non-League outfit Enfield Town.

Wearing black adidas boots and with the No.3 on his back, the former England international was deployed at left-back.

841 fans were in attendance at the Queen Elizabeth II stadium, where Enfield won 3-2 courtesy of a double from Sam Youngs and a goal from Adam Cunningham.

Call us sentimental fools. Say we're looking through rose-tinted glasses. Tell us we should move on....

We still think that seeing Danny Rose back in a Spurs shirt is a heartwarming sight! Playing for Spurs U21s tonight at Enfield. That's got to be great for the young lads! 💪🏿💙 pic.twitter.com/mORMd8u2Ji

According to the Watford Observer, Rose asked his club for permission to train with Spurs as he looks to move on this summer.

Rose joined Spurs in 2007 and became a firm favourite early on in 2010 after scoring a stunning left-footed volley in the North London derby on his Premier League debut at the age of 19.

He played 214 times for the North London side and following a spell on loan at Newcastle after he fell out of favour with Jose Mourinho, left for Watford on a free in 2020.

Despite it ending on a sour note when he was omitted from squads and had his squad number taken off him, Rose had always hoped to pull on the white jersey once again.

"I want nothing more than to play in front of the Tottenham fans one more time, just to cherish all the moments we have had over the years with them," he said on an appearance on the Second Captain's podcast in 2020.

"They have always been good to me, I have possibly given them reasons in the past not to be so good to me, but they know when it was game time I gave everything for them. I will continue to do that as long as I am contracted to Tottenham.

"I would love nothing more than to play one last time for Tottenham and just be able to say goodbye to them and thank them for everything they have done for me as a person as a player."
