Lionel Messi will be 'sitting at Qatar World Cup camp laughing' after Cristiano Ronaldo's bombshell interview

Tim Sherwood claimed his "unconscious bias is now drifting" towards Argentina's Lionel Messi after Cristiano Ronaldo’s explosive interview.

Lionel Messi will be “laughing” from the Argentina training camp at the Qatar World Cup after Cristiano Ronaldo ‘tarnished’ his Manchester United legacy in his bombshell interview.

That is according to former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood, who is “astounded” by Ronaldo’s revelations in his shock interview with TalkTV host Piers Morgan.

Ronaldo, 37, sent shockwaves throughout the world after clips from his forthcoming interview with Morgan made the rounds on social media.

The United star launched a scathing attack on Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag, along with pulling no punches towards ex-teammates Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville.

And Ronaldo, who is under contract until 2023, also aimed brutal digs at ex-United manager Ralf Rangnick and the Glazer family during his sitdown chat with Morgan.

United have since issued a statement and insisted that they will respond “after the full facts have been established” from the explosive interview.

Messi will captain Argentina to what is believed to be his final World Cup, with Lionel Scaloni’s men tipped to win FIFA’s prestigious tournament in Qatar.

The 35-year-old Paris Saint-Germain superstar has often been pitted by fans against Ronaldo in the so-called debate for the football GOAT.

Sherwood has now suggested that his “unconscious bias is now drifting towards” Messi after Ronaldo publicly lashed out at United over his treatment this season.

“I don’t think what Ronaldo is saying is groundbreaking, I really don’t,” he told talkSPORT.

“I think it’s more groundbreaking the fact that he’s come and said it so publicly and obviously done it on a huge platform.

“He could’ve gone Oprah Winfrey or Piers Morgan -- he’s took the English option.

“I’m astounded that he’s come out and done it I really am, I think it tarnishes his legacy.

“I think the little man Lionel Messi must be sitting in Qatar in his camp laughing, looking at it from afar because when you ask players who the best players are to have played the game, it’s either Messi or Ronaldo, it’s a toss-up.

“But my unconscious bias is now drifting towards Lionel Messi, just on top of this, which is a shame really.”

Ronaldo has linked up with his Portugal teammates ahead of the World Cup, with Fernando Santos’ men kicking off their campaign against Ghana on 24th November.

Fans were quick to suggest that there could be tension between Ronaldo and United and Portugal teammate Bruno Fernandes after a somewhat awkward interaction.

However, speculation over a potential rift between Ronaldo and Fernandes has since been dismissed ahead of Portugal’s friendly match with Nigeria on 17th November.
