Luis Diaz was forced to get a brand new car due to a strict rule put in force across the Bayern Munich squad.

After playing a key role in Arne Slot's Premier League title-winning season, Diaz left Liverpool in the summer having spent three-and-a-half years at the club.

Early in the transfer window, the Colombian secured a a £65.5million move to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, signing a four-year deal with the German club.

Since arriving at the Allianz Arena, Diaz appears to have adjusted well, scoring six goals and assisting four across his first 10 appearances.

Off the pitch, the winger has also had to make a major change to his lifestyle as a strict club rule has forced him to get a brand new car for this season.

As part of a long partnership with the German car giants Audi, each player in the squad is given a new car every season.

In the past, the only rule relating to this gift has been that all players must use their new Audi when travelling to any activity related to the club, with former player Kingsley Coman reportedly given a hefty fine for turning up to training in 2021 in a Mercedes.

But for the 2025/26 season, Diaz and his Bayern teammates had to follow another strict rule, as they were only able to pick from a range of fully electric and hybrid models.

With that in mind, the former Liverpool star opted for the Audi Q8 SUV TFSI e, a mid-size luxury crossover SUV valued at more than £86,000 with acceleration of 0-62mph in 5.7 seconds.

England star Harry Kane and Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer joined Diaz in selecting the SUV, while Alphonso Davies, Jamal Musiala and Michael Olise preferred the all-electric RS e-tron GT performance, which typically costs around £144,000.

Real Madrid stars receive brand new cars ahead of the season

Bayern Munich players aren't the only ones that are treated to a new car at the start of every season, as the Real Madrid squad are also given new BMWs.

While the Bundesliga champions are paired with Audi, the Spanish giants have enjoyed a relationship with rival German manufacturers BMW for several years.

For this season, Diaz's former Liverpool teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold opted for the BMW IX model which is valued from £75,405, while England teammate Jude Bellingham chose the BMW XM model which costs at least £112,820.
