It remains to be seen if World Cup finalists Emi Martinez and Ibrahima Konate will return to their respective sides. Having seen the clips of the former’s celebrations in Buenos Aires, he is unlikely to feature at Villa Park.

Philippe Coutinho could feature against his former club having returned to training. Villa’s only long-term absentee is Diego Carlos.

Meanwhile, James Milner picked up a hamstring injury against City and is unlikely to feature on Boxing Day, while Trent Alexander-Arnold also missed the Carabao Cup defeat due to illness.

Furthermore, a calf injury has made Roberto Firmino a doubt while Diogo Jota, Arthur Melo and Luis Diaz are all out.
