Aston Villa fans are completely divided after watching Alejandro Garnacho's debut

Aston Villa have shared their thoughts online after watching Alejandro Garnacho in action for the first time against Indonesia All Stars.

Garnacho joined Aston Villa on a season-long loan from Chelsea last week after struggling during his first campaign at Stamford Bridge.

The 22-year-old scored just once in 24 Premier League appearances following his £40 million transfer from Manchester United last summer.

Villa have since taken a chance on the Argentine international by including a £43 million conditional obligation-to-buy clause based on how many appearances he makes.

An opportunity to work under Unai Emery, arguably one of the best tacticians on the planet, is seen as the ideal chance for the fleet-footed winger to get his career back on track.

In an official interview after moving to the Midlands, Garnacho admitted that his confidence has been shot over the past few years and wants to recapture the form that saw him dazzle in the early days at Manchester United.

"I think I was looking for a club to get confidence, and try to be the player that I was years ago, from my first years at (Manchester) United," he said.

"I spoke with the manager, and he gave me that confidence to be here and try to help the team."

Having completed his loan to Aston Villa, Garnacho has spent time with his new teammates and begun training with the club at the start of this week.

On Saturday, the Villans began their pre-season tour of the Far East with a 3-1 victory over Indonesia All Stars, thanks to goals from Emi Buendia, Ross Barkley and Brian Madjo.

Garnacho made his first appearance in claret and blue, starting on the left flank, with Emi Buendía playing in the No. 10 role, Evann Guessand leading the line and John McGinn operating on the right.

The Argentine produced a decent performance during his first 45 minutes before being substituted at half-time, showcasing a glimpse of what supporters can expect from him.

A few neat touches and successful take-ons caught the eye, and he could have scored at least once had Buendía chosen to pass to him late in the first half when the goal was at his mercy.

After watching his debut for the club, supporters took to X to comment on his performance, and he certainly divided opinion.

"Definitely had a good game. Has some confidence and definitely can get better and a good player under Emery," one fan wrote, praising his display and outlining his excitement for what is to come.

"Good 45 minutes, need to get the ball quicker to him tho," a second commented.

A third also agreed with the positivity, stating: "Bit of confidence & get him fully fit & he'll be a star under Emery, no doubt."

But while many were complimentary, others were critical. "Looks unfit. But alot to come i believe in him," someone observed.

"Reaching I think. Easier to put a bad highlight reel together than a good one. Touch a little sloppy, given away a few times, poor cross when it looked easy enough to pick someone out, poor attempt to get a shot away, easily blocked," another analysed.

"Seems to have an attitude," a sixth outlined, which was a common issue for Garnacho during his time at Man United.

Villa continue their pre-season tour with a clash against Pathum United on August 4.
