Ajax forward Brian Brobbey reacts to being racially abused during FC Utrecht game

He said: "I couldn't care less, it doesn't move me."

Ajax forward Brian Brobbey has hit back at being racially abused during the club's Eredivisie clash against FC Utrecht, saying he "couldn't care less, it doesn't move me."

On Sunday afternoon, 'jungle sounds' were heard from the stands at De Galgenwaard after Dutch striker Brobbey made it 2-0 with three minutes left of the first-half.

These sounds were 'clearly audible' as Brobbey celebrated, according to ESPN, who spoke about the incident in their post-match television coverage.

Brobbey was asked about the incident after the full-time whistle on Sunday afternoon.

"After the game I looked at my phone. My brother told me monkey noises were made." Brobbey toldΒ ESPN via Voetbalzone. "I couldn't care less, it doesn't move me. Let them talk, at the end of the day we won and they lost."

The 20-year-old added: "Once again, I couldn't care less."

The KNVB football association have since responded to the misconduct.

"The professional football prosecutor is investigating whether the club can be blamed," a statement read. "It is also taken into account whether they track down the perpetrators and nominate them for a national stadium ban.

"Previously, perpetrators of discriminatory chants went free too often because the available images in combination with sound were not sufficient as evidence. Hopefully that will not happen again in the future."

FC Utrecht director Thijs van Es speaks has blasted the behaviour of supporters, who also briefly halted the game after a firework was set off.

"We have identified the fireworks thrower, he has now been arrested," he said. "We also have the individuals who have shouted in the picture. We will go after that. It may be small numbers, but they screw up."

Steven Berghuis, who assisted Brobbey's effort to make it 2-0, spoke to ESPN about the incident at full-time.

"Monkey sounds? I notice it everywhere. I notice it on the internet, when I walk out of the bus, the things we hear.. and it even comes from kids at the age of 12/13," he said via Twitter account TheEuropeanLad.

"I believe a change is taking place and I see this type of strange behavior everywhere."
