Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua offered extraordinary chance to become world champions again

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua have received the biggest opportunity yet to become world champions in the twilight of their respective careers.

The two Brits appear to be on a collision course to settle who is the greatest heavyweight of their generation.

Both men won what appeared to be warm-up bouts in July, with Fury retiring Mariusz Wach on his stool in an untelevised contest in Thailand. Just over 24 hours later, Joshua fulfilled his side of the bargain and stopped Kristian Prenga in his comeback fight after a tragic car crash which killed two of his best friends.

No official date has been set for Fury vs Joshua, but there's already controversy regarding where the fight will be staged.

It's long been hoped the duo would fight on home soil at Wembley Stadium, although Turki Alalshikh is pushing for the fight to suit other time zones - more specifically, the United States.

New York City's iconic Madison Square Garden is the choice of Alalshikh, as well as Netflix, the platform the fight will be streamed on.

Fury and Joshua have a back-up option on the table

Should Fury vs Joshua face yet another hiccup and fall through, both men have an offer on the table to try and become world champion for the third time.

Oleksandr Usyk, who beat Joshua and Fury to conquer the heavyweight division, vacated his WBA, IBF and WBC titles in June ahead of one final fight before retiring.

It's blown the entire division wide open and benefitted several fighters, including Murat Gassiev. The Russian was elevated to full champion in the aftermath of Usyk's announcement, proving he deserves that status with a defence against Peter Kadiru last month.

Gassiev isn't done yet, however. He's now thrown down the gauntlet to both Fury and Joshua, even offering to fight them in England if he has to.

He told the Mirror: "They are two great fighters, great people, and good guys.

"I have a lot of respect for both guys and if I could fight them in England, then I would say yes, because I have never been before.

"Tyson and Anthony are still great fighters, great champions, and are still at the top level. Either of these two guys is a very hard opponent for any fighter.

"Anthony showed in his last fight that with just one uppercut he went down. But he woke up, recovered, and won the fight; that is heavyweight boxing. They are both at a top level and for sure can still fight for world titles."

Fury has claimed 2026 will be his final year of in-ring competition, although the Gypsy King has already announced his retirement from boxing five times.

AJ, on the other hand, has made no formal announcement about his long-term future.
