Carl Froch has had social media users in stitches after slipping in a humble brag about the time he fought in front of 80,000 fans at Wembley Stadium - a long-running joke that he appears to be in on.

Froch appeared on BBC Breakfast earlier today to give his thoughts on tonight's showdown between Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte.

Speaking via video link from Wembley, he was asked why today’s fight was such a 'big moment' for British boxing.

But fans knew it was only a matter of time before he brought up the time he fought George Groves in front of 80,000 people at Wembley Stadium, which is something he’s well known for in interviews.

Lo and behold, it took mere seconds for the mention to come - a wry smirk appearing on Froch’s face as he delivered his now famous line.

Froch said: "Absolutely, this is a massive moment – and what an occasion.

"I don’t know if you know, but I once boxed here in front of 80,000 fans

"And this stadium – trust me – it's an amazing place. When you do that ring walk, you can really feel the crowd."

Sharing the footage on Twitter, one person wrote: "Froch getting his 80,000 in early on BBC Breakfast news."

Another commented: "Lol, you can see him smirking as he’s saying it."

A third wrote: "Hahahaha he deffo does it on purpose now."

A fourth added: "Haha. How’s he do it without laughing. Quality."

Froch should be famous for being one of the best British boxers of his time and for his excellent pair of fights with Mikkel Kessler, but instead he's famous for knocking George Groves out at Wembley Stadium.

That's because the former professional boxer has become well-known for mentioning his famous bout whenever he gets a chance - including during an episode of The Chase.

He first spoke about it during a 2015 interview with Floyd Mayweather, as part of Sky's coverage during the weigh-in with Manny Pacquiao.

Froch has since insisted it's all down to his dry sense of humour, saying on his Froch on Fighting Podcast: "Mayweather weigh-in, we know we’ve got him because it’s part of the Sky broadcast, we’re showing the fight.

"Adam Smith [Sky’s lead presenter] says, 'I’m gonna give you a question, ask him what you want.'

"Eddie Hearn’s there, I’m chatting to Eddie, 'Quick, what can I ask Floyd Mayweather?'

"And it came to me. I thought, 'This would be a great idea. I’ve gotta mention Wembley and make it about myself.'"

He said what followed was 'off the cuff, but slightly pre-empted', and that it was said 'as a joke'.

"I’ve got a bit of a dry sense of humour," Froch added.
