One of Tyson Fury’s close friends and former opponents has issued an interesting update on whether the Morecambe-based heavyweight will come out of retirement to face fellow Brit Anthony Joshua.
Fury is currently retired, having lost his last two bouts against Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk.
Of course, the ‘Gypsy King’ has previously claimed to have retired on several occasions, only to do a complete U-turn on his stance by returning to the ring.
But this time, his decision feels a lot more definitive, with the 37-year-old recently saying that there is no “actual reason for me to go back” to boxing in an interview with FurociTV.

Away from the ring, the Brit is a busy man and has seven children under the age of 17 with his wife Paris, as well as keeping an eye on various business ventures – including energy drink brand Furocity Energy.
However, at heart, Fury is a fighter and will, no doubt, still back himself to beat most currently active heavyweight fighters despite being out of the ring for nearly a year.

The 37-year-old boasts wins over top operators such as Deontay Wilder and Wladimir Klitschko, but he has yet to face fellow Englishman Joshua, despite the Watford heavyweight recently claiming that he thinks Fury “has to fight” him during an interview with German outlet SPORT1.

Meanwhile, promoter Frank Warren stated that Fury “categorically” told him that he wants to return in 2026.
And despite the potential all-British showdown being at least five years too late, the prospect of Fury and Joshua going toe to toe is a mouthwatering proposition for boxing fans.
Like Fury, Joshua has also had a lengthy period out of the ring and hasn’t fought since sustaining a destructive knockout defeat to Daniel Dubois in September 2024, after which he underwent surgery on an elbow injury.

Earlier this week, Fury’s friend and former opponent Derek Chisora issued a further update on the situation when speaking to The Sun Sport.
“I was in Monaco with Tyson, Tyson is coming back,” Chisora said.
“He wants to fight Usyk. ‘The Gypsy King’ is coming back, don’t worry about that.”
Only Fury really knows whether he will or won’t return to boxing, but there’s no doubt the fact a showdown with ‘AJ’ would be one of the biggest fights in British boxing history.

As previously mentioned, during an interview with FurociTV, Fury maintained his stance on retirement earlier this week.
"It used to be for the money, the titles, but now I've got more money than I can spend, I've got unlimited amounts of belts and titles, and does it make me any happier? No,” Fury said.
